A new project called Gateshead Lunch Buddies is due to start running this spring. The one-year pilot project is funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust and aims to reduce social isolation and malnutrition in vulnerable older people. It will recruit and support a team of volunteers who will be visiting older people at home with a hot lunch, freshly prepared in the Hardman Centre’s kitchen. As well as delivering the lunches, the volunteers will be happy to chat with the older people and to provide them with information on activities, services and groups which may be of interest to them.
More information on Gateshead Lunch Buddies will be available soon.
